Rainy Day

It was proper nasty rainy today.
Like rain that makes you screw up your eyes as tight as you can (whilst still being able to see) when your cycling. And the roads are wet, so water splashes up and gets in your eye anyway, and it feels like your eyelashes have been knocked out of joint and crossed over and gone inwards so you have to blink loads and it's actually really really almost painful. Maybe I should have worn my glasses after all. I just didn't want them to get wet.
You have to wipe the seat of your bike with your sleeve too, but the water never really just slides off, there's always droplets left over, that reform as your wrist passes over them.

This one time, at primary school, we were playing football outside, it rained, and got to the stage where it really wasn't worth trying to stay dry anymore. And sure, it felt liberating. I was nine, y'know.
I sat back down in class, soaked through, everything good. Brave, survivor, carefree. Sniffing proudly. Little nine-year-old punk.
I can't have been the only one soaked through, but I was the only one the teacher singled out. Not in an angry way, not in a not-angry-just-disappointed way. Just in a genuinely concerned way.
That wasn't the reaction I was aiming for.

Rain-songs.
First rain-related song I thought of - OK, the first one was this, but the second one was 'No Rain', by Blind Melon, which makes me think of Sideways, the least rainy movie ever.

But this is the one I found when I typed 'rain' into iTunes that I like the most (after ignoring all the ones that just came up coz of train, brain or rainbow). And it ends with some real-life rain sounds. And it's not even the only rain-related song off this album - 'Rain Falls for Wind' is lovely too.
Anyway, it's really simple, not particularly meaningful lyrically, but whatever...

mp3: The Sleepy Jackson - Mourning Rain

*BONUS*

My lecturer quoted Winehouse today!! No shit. And it wasn't even 'Rehab'.
It was on Troilus and Cressida, and to be honest I was only half-listening at this point, but in relation to Cressida, this lyric is apparently applicable:

I cheated myself,
Like I knew I would,
I told you I was trouble,
You know that I'm no good

Genius.
Down-with-the-kids. One hip cat. Or even hepcat.
And yes, the lecture also included references to "texting", plus obligatory unnecessary swearing. Oh well.
Here's the best version of the song, with extra-added Ghostface, off of More Fish:

New Week's Resolutions

(New week only if your week begins on a Wednesday. Mine doesn't, but still... maybe if you made up a religion were Wednesday was the Sabbath-or-equivalent, like how some Christians have the week beginning on Sunday?? Aaaaaaaaanyway...)

So yeah, no posts lately. Sorry, I've been rubbish. But no one's reading anyway. YET...
Anyways, I have decided not to suck anymore, and to write more often, and better-ly.

So - I hereby promise to post every day this week.
And this post doesn't count.

First proper post coming very shortly.

back from italia

hey hey monkees
(yes yes, in a patronising kinda mood...)

I'm back from Italy, which is, y'know, a'rite. Italy was really great, but you don't wanna hear about that. Two songs that recurred from the trip: the first we just happened to hear on the radio twice in a coupla days, the second was played on a loop in the Termini station in Rome, in an advert for a production of Hair. (NB it wasn't the Japanese version, it's just that that's the only version I have.) (NB pt.2 - I would've been all hip and posted some ker-azee obscure remix of the Rihanna track, but all the ones I listened to just made me miss the awesome pop-ness of the original).

mp3: Rihanna - Don't Stop the Music

mp3: 1971 Japanese Cast of Hair - Aquarius (highly recommended)

See what I've done there with the picture - yes indeed, it's the poster for Hair, cleeeeeverly modified to look like the Italian flag! An idea which I thought up and executed aaaaall by myself.

byeeeeeeeeee

I'm off to Italy now.
I dunno how I managed to failed to see, when I posted this song earlier, that I should have left it until now, because the perfect mp3 (or 2) to represent this momentous occasion is, of course, 'Postcards from Italy', either the original (Beirut) or the cover by Florence and the Machine.
It saves me the expense of sending an actual postcard from Italy. But you shouldn't be sad, it's an amaaaaaazing song, much more interesting than any postcard I'd write.
Anyways, no posts for ten days-ish. later dude...
